Grounds

Range

The Range is available for use by members, who have completed the Range Master Course, and their guests. If you are a member, and have not taken the Range Master Course, you may not use the range unless there is another Range Master in attendance.

All persons on the range must follow the Standard Operating Procedures and the Range Rules. A Release of Liability form must also be on record for all guests on the range. Feel free to print any of these documents for your use. If you are bringing a guest to the range, just bring a filled out copy of the Release of Liability with you to the range and leave it in the sign-in book.  NOTE:  Members are only allowed to have three (3) “shooting” guests on the Range at any given time.

The Pond is located in the NE part of the property. The Pond is stocked with trout every May. Members may fish at the pond, but are limited to pulling three fish per day.

Archery Course

The archery range trail serves two uses. At every Hunter Education class it is used for a practical test for students to measure their knowledge, skills and attitude. Other than that it is a roving range for Club archers to use. The trail is in the rough shape of a circle and is laid out around a hill. All the targets are marked by numbers and you shoot into the hill on each target as you move around the trail. Numbers 1 through 7 are on the north side and are all unmarked distances. Targets 8 through 11 are bull’s-eye targets set at 10, 20, 30 and 40 yards. Then the south side is number 12 through 16 which are set at unmarked distances.

Here are the rules as they are posted in two places along the trail:

1. For V.S.C. members and their guests. Wear your badge.

2. There are 16 targets on a circular trail. Move counterclockwise on trail so target numbers are increasing.

3. Make sure your target is clear before shooting.

4. Use target or field arrows only.

Other Items: It would be good to wear hunter orange in the fall of the year on this range so you can be seen. And it is a good thing to carry a small clipper with you to trim growth of the brush if it is in your way. The trail is maintained but if everyone can help out clipping a few pesky twigs it would be a good thing. If you are out in the brush behind the backstop searching for one of your not so well placed shots make sure that you are noticeable to a shooter coming up the trail behind you by throwing your jacket over the target for example. In other words, be seen.

So, get out there and use the course, have fun and be safe.

Horse Trail

The Horse Trail was recently cleared so that club horse owners can trailer their horse to the club, and take a trail that runs to the State lands Horse Trail. The trail starts near the junction of the main driveway and the access road to the kitchen. The trail runs along the fence of the Singer Farm and comes out on Singer Rd. The trail then continues on the other side of Singer and runs
