All Classroom and Range training will be held on the grounds of the Vashon Sportsmen’s Club at 19720 Singer Road SW, Vashon WA 98070. There is a small course fee of $5.00 and students must attend every session (all 6 days). Since we are located on an island serviced by ferry we must warn you that there is a fare involved plus extra time involved in travel. Check Washington State Ferry schedule beforehand. The class is geared for island residents but we have had off-island folks commute.
Registration must be done on the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife website. Watch this page to find out when the class will be available for registration.
Class size will be held to fifteen. Officially, there is no minimum age but it is recommended that students under twelve take the class with parent or other adult. We will be doing a field course, which is a shoot/no shoot test for safety, gun handling and good judgment. We will be doing a live fire session with either a .223 rifle or archery. We will be taking the standard written test, which can be given orally if a student has trouble with reading. We test for knowledge, skill and attitude.
Our class is eighteen hours. We team-teach with four certified volunteer instructors with a combined experience of over fifty years in offering this course. Experts in archery, muzzle loading and survival are invited to address the students also. We strive to keep students involved and interested by a mix of classroom and hands-on activities.
