January - March

"Trophy" Winter Native Steelhead on the Bogachiel, Hoh, Sol-Duc, or the Clearwater Rivers, 16' heated Willie Drift Boat that seats 2 fishermen, January 5th through March 30th. This Steelhead fishing takes place on the beautiful Olympic Peninsula in the rain forests and whitewater rivers based out of the town of Fork's, WA. Trophy Steelhead will go easily into the low to high teens and some in the 20 pound class and even some tipping the scales in the 30 pound class, world class fishing. We utilize these techniques for fishing the Trophy Steelhead that the Pacific Northwest is so famous for. We will Drift fish with ultra light G. Loomis fishing rods and Shimano stradic fishing reels, Gamakatsu hooks tipped with eggs, shrimp, corkies and yarn, and yes even pink worms will entice a strike from a large Native Steelhead. We also fish with floats and jigs, floats and pink worms and floats and bait. We You might even catch us pulling diving plugs with divers and bait.

March - April/May

Spring Salmon fishing on the main stem Columbia River and tributaries. Fished from our 23' Alumaweld Super-Vee jet boat, with heater for those cold days, seats up to six people. March 24th or so to the end of April, depends on the run size and predictions. This fishery can go well into May and sometimes into June on the Cowlitz River. Two people here but can add one or two more people for this trip at the going rate of $175.00 per person. We fish the Columbia River at Cathlamet, and work our way up as the run continues up-river. This is the very best eating salmon of all the salmon runs and very sought after by many fisherman each year. Average size is 10 to 18 pounds, with many over 20 pounds and some well into 30 pounds. We use G. Loomis rods and Shimano reels with all the gear, and bait supplied. We usually troll herring that has been salted with scent or bluing added. Sometimes we use an in-line flasher with this set-up. Sometimes we will anchor in the downriver current and pull sardine wrapped plugs.

June - August & September

Summer salmon on Puget Sound in and around the location of Vashon Island, Area-11 and Area 13. We fish from our 20 foot Willie Asaltor that seats four fisherman. We do very well here in South Puget Sound and many fish are boated if there are fish to be caught. Fish in the teens are common, 20 plus pounds are also pretty common and even a chance at some migrating Kings in the 30 pound class and some even tipping the scales in 40 pounds. I have boated many fish in the 30 pound class here in the waters in and around Vashon Island. Along with this we offer crab fishing when open for an added fee and pot rental. We utilize downriggers to target suspended fish at different depths. We also will jig for the earlier salmon around the Narrows Bridge, Clay Banks, and Dalco. Salmon are easily taken on Jigs in these locations. Again all the gear is provided for a day of fishing on South Puget Sound. The average trip here is about 7 to 8 hours. We mostly will troll with artificial gear, Hoochies, Coyote spoons, and Plugs. September we are still fishing but targeting the Silvers, (Coho). Average size for these little scrappers is 5 to 9 pounds.

July - August

We also fish the Cowlitz River for Summer hatchery Steelhead. Fished from our 23' Alumaweld Super-Vee jet boat, seats up to six people drift fishing for the Summer Hatchery Steelhead. Sometimes we are fishing in our shorts and one of my best days here we boated 24 summer steelhead. This Steelhead fishing takes place on the Cowlitz River in Southwest Washington. This is mostly a side drifting technique where we utilize G. Loomis ultra light spinning gear, light lines and Shimano spinning reels. Drifting bait or corkies and yarn only. Summer Steelhead will easily weigh in at 6 pounds to 12 pounds and a few in the high teens. The Cowlitz River has always been pretty consistent for Summer and Winter Steelhead.

Late August and a bit into September

Fall Salmon on the Columbia River at Buoy 10 and out off the mouth of the Columbia River. We fish from our 20 foot Willie Asaltor that seats four fisherman. This is a very exciting and intense fishery with many boats in a very small area. 20 pound Kings are very common here. There is a very real chance to put 50 pound Kings in the boat. 15 pound Silvers, (Coho), are very common here. There is a very real chance of putting 20 plus pound Silvers in the boat here. We fish with delta divers, fish flash and herring trolled usually downriver or with the tide. The delta Divers are hard pulling and fishing in 15 to 20 feet of water we need to get control of the fish right now. We use 50 pound braided main line and heavy leaders here to gain control of these very scrappy Kings with heavy teeth that can and do cut the line sometimes. All bait and tackle is provided.

October/November

Snake River at Heller Bar, South of Lewiston and Clarkston Washington. The Snake River is a pretty big river with some pretty good whitewater on every corner. Fished from our 23' Alumaweld Super-Vee jet boat, seats up to six people drift fishing for the Hatchery Steelhead of Hells Canyon usually at the mouth of the Grande Rhonde River. You will stay in Lewiston Idaho at the Red Lion Inn and travel south for about 33 miles to Heller Bar where we will greet you and put you into fish 50 yards from the boat launch. If you like bird hunting bring your shotgun and chase Chuckar and Quail. Usually at lunch break we will travel up river to some deep holes and fish for oversize Sturgeon until everyone is tired out from fighting 7 to 10 foot sturgeon. Back down for an afternoon crack at steelhead and usually send you home with limits for all. This is mostly a side drifting technique where we utilize G. Loomis ultra light spinning gear, light lines and Shimano spinning reels. Drifting bait or corkies and yarn only. These Steelhead will easily weigh in at 6 pounds to 12 pounds and a few in the high teens. The Snake River where we fish is the gateway to Hells Canyon and has always been pretty consistent for the hatchery Steelhead.

November - December

Winter Hatchery Steelhead either on the Olympic Peninsula from our heated Willie Drift boat or on the Cowlitz River from our 23 foot Alumaweld Super-Vee jet boat. All techniques are used and just a great fun fishery in either place. Same techniques as above and weigh in from 6 to 12 pounds.

Good Fishing,

Brad Shride
