Vashon Sportsmen's Club Day CampMonday
July 16th - Friday July 20th , 2007

Every summer for the past few years some of our
members have donated their time to give Island kids positive lessons
in firearms safety and marksmanship.
Campers enjoy day long activities from 9 A.M. to 5
P.M. Monday - Friday. The campers are divided into novice and advanced
classes, and they alternate their mornings and afternoons between
classroom and range time.

At lunch the campers may eat their lunch, practice
archery, fish for trout in our pond, and/or all three. Or they may
just want to relax in the shade, and enjoy the quiet beauty of our
Island refuge.
Club members - many of whom are N.R.A. Certified
Instructors - provide instruction in the safe handling, use, and
enjoyment of firearms. In the last decade, nearly $20,000.00 worth of
NRA Foundation grants have made it possible for the Vashon Sportsmen's
club to ensure that we have firearms on hand that will properly fit
all of our campers no matter what their size and skill level.
Another key point of our success is that many of the camper's parents take an active
role in the camp experience, and they are instrumental in adding to
the camp experience. Many children finish the week with fond memories
of having spent quality time with supportive family members, and many
find the shooting, and archery, and fishing, to be fun sports they can
share with family for a lifetime.
Our last day of camp features a family cookout and
camp graduation ceremony in which the campers are presented with their
certificates of completion and all of the badges and marksmanship bars
that they earned while at camp.

Safety is # 1 at the Vashon Sportsmen's Club. If you would like to
help others learn about safe handling and storage of firearms, or if
you have a youngster that you think would benefit from proper
instruction, we would love to hear from you. Our Chief N.R.A. Instructor
Phil Mahurin may be reached at
